Welcome

'Rab Telling Stories' Illustration by Marina Wild
I am a self-taught working class writer, storyteller, poet, podcaster and comedian living on a hill overlooking Galway Bay. Most of my time is spent working on new stories and poems, rehearsing shows, giving workshops on creative writing and storytelling, and cooking and hunting for yetis with my children. I also record the oral histories and creativity of Galway's diverse communities.
In 2018 I created an oral history podcast Ballybane Voices featuring people from the east side of Galway talking about their families, history and culture (including a lot of ghost stories).
In 2019 I recorded a three part series Westside Voices, in which teenage girls from Galway's Traveller community discussed life, society and stories.
In 2021 I collaborated with Dr. Kate Harvey of NUI Galway to create Our Stories, a Galway 2020 audio project in which NUI Galway students worked with Galway's diverse teenage community to collect and create new wonder tales reflecting the landscape, language and heritage of young Galwegians.
I have been quietly working and playing with words for a while now, but my writing gained more attention with the publication of 'Transformation' in 2012 and 'Galway Bay Folk Tales' in 2013.
This was followed by West of Ireland Folk Tales for Children in 2018.
My short story God and The Brevity - an imaginary piece of folklore from the future - was commissioned for the 2021 short documentary Hidden Collision directed by Emma Zukovic. The documentary has won many accolades and awards, most recently winning 'Best Short Documentary Award' at the Reykjavik Independent Film Festival. I am now developing the story into a novel.
Between 2018 and 2021 I recorded an audio version of my sci-fi story Marcus Marcus & the Hurting Heart Extracts from the book can be read in the online Galway arts zine An Áit Eile
I am a professional member of the Irish Writers Centre. I am also listed with Poetry Ireland's Writers In Schools Scheme. My children's work includes performing stories and poems. My comedy horror for children, The Bloody Tale of Little Red and Wolfie, was originally performed in The Town Hall Theatre and later recorded for Flirt FM.
This website has more information about my work, information on where to purchase my books, as well review quotes, details about my performance work and links to video clips and interviews.
